RESIDENTIAL INTERIOR DESIGN: SPACES THAT REFLECT WHO YOU ARE

A home is not a project. It is a portrait.

We design residential interiors that reflect the people who live in them, not trends, not styles, not the designer’s signature. Every space we create is a portrait of its inhabitants: their rhythms, their values, their way of experiencing daily life.

VANDA Designers approaches residential interior design with the same strategic depth we bring to our retail and hospitality projects. The difference is the intimacy of the brief. Designing a home means entering someone’s life. We never take that lightly.

We work on villas, urban apartments, holiday homes and historic residences in need of renovation. From initial concept to construction management, we oversee every phase guaranteeing design coherence and executive quality. Whether it is a new build in Piacenza, a penthouse in Milan, a countryside villa or a residence in Burgos, our interior design always begins with listening and a deep understanding of how the client actually lives their space.

How we design residential interiors

Every residential interior design project begins with concrete questions, not passing trends. Before proposing aesthetic solutions, we focus on how the spaces will function in real life.

How does the family use this space? A couple working from home has different needs from a family with young children. An art collector requires specific lighting. Someone who loves cooking needs a different relationship between kitchen and living area. What are the existing constraints? We address architectural, structural and technical constraints with intelligent design solutions. A historic villa requires different sensibility from a new industrial loft.

What atmosphere are they looking for? Natural light or gathered intimacy? Fluid open spaces or distinct environments? Essential minimalism or richness of texture? There is no universally right answer, there is only the right answer for the person who will inhabit that space.

For Casa Regino in Burgos, we worked on a historic apartment in the heart of the Spanish city, recovering original architectural elements and integrating them with contemporary interior design. The project required particular sensitivity towards local culture and regional materials, while maintaining the VANDA signature: formal clarity, rigorous material selection, obsessive attention to detail.

For the Darsena Living project in Milan, we designed a co-living space where the challenge was to create private intimacy within a shared environment, balancing individual identity with collective coherence across multiple units.

For the Turin apartment renovation, we transformed a historic space by preserving the architectural memory of the building while introducing a contemporary domestic language. The project balanced restoration sensibility with the functional demands of modern living.

For the Dammuso in Lampedusa, we worked with a traditional island building typology, translating the raw materiality of the Mediterranean — stone, whitewash, natural wood — into a refined holiday residence that feels entirely of its place.

From here we develop the concept and floor plans, studying the functional redistribution of spaces, the optimisation of daily flows, the enhancement of natural light. We analyse every square metre to maximise comfort and functionality, seeking solutions that resolve existing criticalities and create new possibilities for use.

Materials, light and detail

The selection of materials and finishes follows criteria of durability and authenticity. We favour natural woods, stones and quality fabrics that age well over time. Colour combinations are studied to last years, not just photograph well today. Every material is chosen considering its maintainability and its behaviour over time.

Lighting is designed as a fundamental architectural element. We enhance natural light through the orientation of spaces and the choice of openings, then layer artificial lighting to respond to the different moments of the day. Home automation is integrated when genuinely useful, never displayed as a technological statement in itself.

For furniture and details we always seek a balance between design pieces, bespoke craftsmanship and a careful selection of accessories. Every element serves a precise function or carries a clear aesthetic value. We do not fill spaces for the sake of filling them, every object has its reason to exist within the overall project.

Why choose VANDA for your residential project

Our cross-sector experience sets us apart. We have worked for years on both residential and commercial projects, from retail to hospitality. This breadth allows us to bring to residential projects the quality standards and innovative solutions typical of major brands, while maintaining the sensitivity necessary for a domestic space.

The bespoke approach is in our DNA. We do not sell predefined packages or replicate standardised schemes. Every project begins with specific listening and develops as a unique response to your needs. Luxury for us is genuine personalisation, not expensive furniture. It means creating a space that works perfectly for the person who lives in it, that authentically reflects their personality.

The quality of the partners we collaborate with is fundamental. Over the years we have built a network of selected craftspeople, premium material suppliers and specialist contractors. Every person involved is chosen for competence and reliability, not just economic convenience. This careful selection of collaborators directly reflects in the quality of the final result.

Frequently asked questions about residential interior design

How long does a complete interior design project take? Duration depends on the complexity of the intervention. An apartment of 100 sqm without structural modifications generally requires between three and four months in total across design and execution. A villa with complete renovation can require between eight and twelve months. After the first site visit we provide a detailed timeline specific to your project.

What are the indicative costs? Realisation costs vary enormously depending on material choices, installation complexity and furniture type. During the first meeting we define together a realistic budget in relation to your objectives, avoiding surprises later.

Can I keep some of my existing furniture? Absolutely. We frequently integrate pieces that hold affective or economic value for the client into the new project. The important thing is to evaluate them together in the overall context to guarantee aesthetic and functional coherence with the rest of the spaces.

Do you work on design only, without managing the construction? We have no rigid position on this. Our team is accustomed to collaborating with other professionals, and while we love following the entire process from architectural conception to the execution of details, we are open to evaluating your specific needs case by case, to support you in realising the home you have always wanted.

Where do you operate? Our bases are in Piacenza and Burgos, but we work across Italy and abroad for significant projects. Geographic distance has never been a problem for well-structured projects, thanks to targeted site visits and remote coordination in intermediate phases.
