Musical Connections

Golfo Mistico in Turin is a place of creativity.

Born from the mind and heart of Samuel Romano, singer, musician and the voice of Subsonica, Golfo Mistico houses the Turin artist’s recording studio, yet it is conceived as a space where the arts meet, communicate and merge, giving rise to new creative languages.

When Samuel asked us to design the staircase connecting the ground floor to the mezzanine of his Golfo Mistico, we drew on references to Carlo Scarpa’s architecture, combined them with the materials already present in parts of the space, and imagined an element that could add value to the aesthetics of the space, beyond the obvious functional matrix that every staircase carries with it.

A Sculptural Staircase in Concrete and Wood

The result is a solid, structured element, industrial yet defined by its simple materiality: a sequence of concrete blocks with a marbled surface rising along the exposed brick wall, alternating solids and voids to house a built-in bookshelf and small lit niches.

At the centre of the composition, the historic “Sali e Tabacchi” sign coexists discreetly, preserved as a testimony to the history of the place, while potted plants and a circular lamp complete the atmosphere, both industrial and warm at once.

We are grateful to Samuel for his trust: we are happy to have contributed a piece of our own to the creation of a place where the music we love so much comes to life.
