Total concept design in Piacenza for the Società Canottieri Nino Bixio: a complete redesign of the identity of their restaurant and club house overlooking the Po river. Interior, branding, furniture, lighting. From scratch.
Total concept design: the project
The starting point is the place. The Po flows outside the windows and was never treated as a backdrop — it was the compass of the project. The proximity to the water guided every decision: the palette, the materials, the light, the rhythm of the space. The declared inspiration is that of a 1950s Caribbean club: informal elegance, suspended atmosphere, time moving slowly.
The interiors
Two hundred square metres designed for dining and club house use. The furniture was designed and produced entirely bespoke: every piece born from the space and the concept, built to last and to tell a story. The bar counter is a central scenic element, designed to be a protagonist without dominating. The lighting system works by zone, modulating the atmosphere from breakfast through to the evening.
The terrace
The terrace overlooking the Po is the natural extension of the interiors: same language, same care, same attention to detail. Two hundred square metres of open space designed for aperitivo, summer dining and evening events. The view of the river is always present, never taken for granted. The outdoor furniture follows the same logic as the interior pieces: selected and purpose-designed. The external lighting works in continuity with the interior, building a single atmosphere from the entrance to the riverbank.
The branding
VANDA proposed the name and logo of the project. Terrazza Bixio was born as a complete identity: the name evokes the place, the history of the club, the relationship with the water. The logo follows the same logic: essential, recognisable, able to live across all formats. From the menu to the signage, every element tells the same story.
A place that speaks
Terrazza Bixio is not a new opening: it is the restoration of a historic place to the city. The Società Canottieri Nino Bixio has existed for decades, rooted in the social life of Piacenza. The VANDA project brings this history into the present without betraying it: materials that age well, furniture that lasts, a visual identity capable of growing with time. The result is a space that feels its history without being weighed down by it, contemporary, recognisable, and entirely of Piacenza.
