Sustainable retail design Italy, built from scratch. Refurby approached VANDA before opening a single store: we developed the complete brand identity and retail system for a refurbished electronics franchise, then translated everything into physical space across four cities.

Sustainable retail design: the challenge

Refurbished electronics carry a perception problem. Customers associate used products with inferior quality, risk, compromise. Refurby’s reconditioning process delivers warranted, quality-tested devices, but the stores needed to communicate this without pretending the products were new. Honest, premium, and entirely its own visual language.

The concept

The spatial design emerged directly from the brand identity we had built. Refurby’s colour palette: cyan blue, coral orange, black, became architectural elements. The triple stripe motif from the logo runs continuously along walls and fixtures, connecting products throughout the space and functioning as a visual metaphor for the reconditioning process: care, testing, warranty. White glossy display units reference the packaging boxes rather than imitating Apple Store minimalism. Glass vitrines communicate transparency, literally and in terms of product honesty. Metal grid systems allow constant reconfiguration as refurbished inventory changes unpredictably.

A scalable system

From the Piacenza flagship in 2020, the Refurby design system has expanded to Lodi, Milano, and Crotone. Different sizes, different configurations, the same unmistakable identity. Custom fixtures scale up or down. The stripe works at any dimension. When brand identity and spatial design are developed together from inception, the result is a franchise system with built-in coherence.
